Zero Impunity report highlights largest seizure of cartridges and weapons in the country

#GobiernoDeMéxico.- At President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning press conference in Puebla, the Undersecretary of Public Security, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, presented the results in matters of justice as part of the Zero Impunity report.

The official announced the largest seizure of cartridges in the history of the country with 2,829,950 bullets of different calibers found in Navojoa, Sonora, during the search of four properties by members of the Armed Forces. In addition, machine guns, .50 caliber rifles and magazines were found.

During this six-year term, 29,680 firearms have been seized, a higher figure compared to the 17,761 reported in the same period of the previous administration.

He detailed that tracing investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirm that 70 percent of the weapons seized by Mexican authorities come from the United States and the remaining 30 percent from Spain, Italy, Austria and other countries.
